Shipping is the another imporant process of Ecommerce. This process determines how customers receive the products they ordered online and how fast and how much customers have to pay.

In Shopbay.org, shipping setup is done through two steps. First is setting up Shipping Zone, and next is define Shipping Option, i.e. you need to decide how do you want to ship your products when your customers place orders and how do you charge the shipping.

  1. Shipping Zone

  2. Shipping Option

Shipping Zone

What is Zone?

A zone (or shipping zone) is the maximum area coverage a shipping allowed. The coverage area maximally is in the size of a country, or can be further restricted to only cover state or city or postal code.

Shipping Option

Once you have setup Zones, you are ready to setup shippings.

What is Shipping?

Shipping defines how do you want your product to be shipped and how do you want to charge the shipping fee when they are purchased online. It includes:

  1. The selection of a shipping zone
  2. Shipping method: It can be either delivery-to-home, or even self-pickup at store
  3. Shipping types and fee: It defines how you want to charge shipping.
  4. Shipping tiers: It allows you charge shipping by tiers based on either order subtotal or item weights.

Shipping fee computation formula = Rate per Order + [ Surcharge per product (optional) ]

Shipping fee by default is computed at purchase order level. Additionally, you can also add a shipping fee surcharge at product level.

Shipping Configuration

You need to configure the followings:

Shipping Name Name of shipping

Shipping Zone Zone of shipping want to cover.

Shipping Method How you ship your product. It has two methods:

Personal Pickup This method means that you would want buyer to collect product at your shop with reference to the shop address.

Home Delivery This method means that you will arrange a delivery to send product to customer. When this method is selected, you can further define following field:

ETA ETA stands for Estimated time arrival. You can specify an ETA (e.g. 2 days) for method Home Delivery (optional).

Shipping Type How you want to charge your shipping. It has three types:

Free Shipping This type means that shipping is always free (zero charged to customer) for any product purchased under this shipping.

Flat Fee This type means that shipping fee is charged at a fixed rate for any product purchased under this shipping. When this type is selected, you need to further define following field:

Rate per Order The fixed rate that you want to charge for shipping in one single order regardless of number of items purchased. For example, if you set this field to $5.00, it means that purchasing either 1 item or 10 items in one single order will be charged the same fee (flat) $5.00.

Tiered Fee This type means that shipping fee can have multi-tiered fee. To use this type, you need to choose Base and define Tier.

Base Two bases supported:

Order Subtotal This base computes shipping fee based on order subtotal.

Weight This base computes shipping fee based on items weight.

Tier (at least one tier) Here you define the shipping tier by specifying the boundary of the tier, and the rate to charge for this tier. You can setup multi-tiers by repeating this step. However, at any one time only one tier will be qualified and triggered when computing shipping fee for an order. It has following fields:

Floor The floor boundary of tier. Its unit will follow the Base you have selected earlier on. For Order Subtotal, its unit will be dollar value following the shop currency in locale setting. For Weight, its unit will be following the shop weight unit in locale setting. The first tier should always have Floor value zero.

Ceiling The ceiling boundary of tier. Its unit definition follows the same as in Floor. If this field is blank, it means no ceiling, implying that infinitive (optional).

Rate The fixed rate that you want to charge for shipping for this tier based on the Base in one single order.

Note

After you fill up above information and create your Shipping, your Shipping status will first become Offline.

A Shipping with status Offline is not visible to public yet and not ready to be in used. You need to bring your Shipping Online in order to let customers select shipping options when placing purchase order. We will cover this at other tutorial later.
